Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & EMDR with Jane McCausland MA, PGDip (Psych), CQSW
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is an effective, evidence –based therapy, recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence, for the treatment of Depression and all Anxiety Disorders including Generalised Anxiety Disorder; Obsessive Compulsive Disorder; Social Anxiety; Health Anxiety; specific phobias; Panic Disorder with or without Agoraphobia, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Our thoughts, behaviours and emotions are all inter-linked, so if we identify unhelpful thinking styles, challenging negative beliefs, and changing our learnt behaviour, we can greatly improve the way we feel. Often it is behaviour (such as avoidance ) maintaining low mood and anxiety. By developing new skills and positive ways of thinking, my clients become more resilient, and effectively learn to become their own therapist.
What is EMDR?
The mind usually heals itself naturally, and this usually occurs when we sleep, particularly during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) utilises this natural healing process. Since 1987 EMDR has been used to successfully treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and is now proving effective treatment for ‘unprocessed’ traumatic memories, and a wide range of mental health problems.
